Your Bitcoin payout: address types and confirmations
- Four address types
- bc1q… is native SegWit, bc1p… is Taproot, 1… is a legacy address and 3… a script (P2SH) address. The form takes all four on Bitcoin mainnet and turns away testnet addresses, such as those starting with tb1.
- Pasting a payment link
- Wallet QR codes often hold a link in the form bitcoin:bc1q…?amount=… rather than a bare address. Paste it as it is: the form strips the bitcoin: prefix and everything after the question mark, keeping only the address, and the order amount stays the one you entered.
- What one confirmation means
- Your BTC gets its first confirmation when a block includes it, and every later block adds one. Gaps between blocks are random around their 10-minute average, so occasionally none is found for a whole hour. If the payout lands in an exchange account, that exchange applies its own confirmation threshold before crediting it.
- Lightning instead of a block
- To get the BTC over Lightning, choose Bitcoin on the Lightning Network as the receive asset and paste an invoice (lnbc…) or a Lightning address. That is a separate pair with its own quote, and its payout does not wait for a Bitcoin block.
