Swap Litecoin to Bitcoin
Send LTC on the Litecoin network and receive BTC at your Bitcoin address, or over Lightning. Ghostex waits for 6 Litecoin confirmations, about 15 minutes, and most orders finish in 5 to 30 minutes. The flat 0.48% fee is already inside the quote, and there is no account or KYC.
Pair details
LTC to BTC at a glance
Both coins use look-alike address formats, so on this route the two address fields deserve more attention than the amount.
- You send
- LTC on the Litecoin network. The swap starts after 6 confirmations, about 15 minutes at Litecoin’s 2.5-minute block target.
- You receive
- BTC on the Bitcoin network, or BTC on the Lightning Network if you switch the receive side to Lightning in the form.
- Payout address
- A Bitcoin address starting with bc1q, bc1p (Taproot), 1 or 3. For Lightning: an invoice, a Lightning address (name@domain), LNURL or a BOLT12 offer.
- Memo or tag
- None. Neither Litecoin nor Bitcoin uses a memo or destination tag, so the form does not ask for one.
- Refund address
- Optional. Leave it empty and a refund returns as LTC to the address you paid from; fill it in with a Litecoin address (ltc1, L, M or 3).
- Limits
- About $10 to $10,000,000 in USD value; the form shows the exact limits in LTC.
- Rate
- Fixed for 30 minutes from order creation, or floating and set when the swap executes. The 0.48% fee is inside both.
- Typical time
- 5 to 30 minutes. About 15 of them are the Litecoin confirmations; the BTC payout then waits for Bitcoin blocks like any transfer.
Use case
Why swap LTC to BTC
The usual way to turn Litecoin into Bitcoin is to deposit LTC into an exchange account, pass its identity check, trade, and then withdraw BTC. This route replaces those steps with one order: you enter a Bitcoin address, send LTC from your own wallet and receive BTC. No name, email, phone or ID is asked for.
It suits consolidating Litecoin into Bitcoin, whether you want to hold BTC on the Bitcoin chain or spend it over Lightning. The Litecoin side is the quicker half of the trip. Its 6 confirmations at a 2.5-minute block target take about 15 minutes, while 2 Bitcoin confirmations on a BTC deposit take roughly 20.
Addresses
Litecoin and Bitcoin addresses look alike: check the prefix
Most Litecoin addresses start with L, M or ltc1, but Litecoin still accepts script addresses that start with 3 (Litecoin chainparams.cpp). Bitcoin’s pay-to-script addresses start with 3 too, in the same format. That means a 3 address can belong to either chain, and the address itself does not show which.
On an LTC to BTC order that matters twice. The payout field wants a Bitcoin address and turns away ltc1, L and M addresses. The refund field wants a Litecoin address and turns away bc1 and 1 addresses. A 3 address passes both checks. The form therefore cannot warn you if you paste your Bitcoin 3 address as the Litecoin refund, or a Litecoin 3 address as the BTC payout. A payout cannot be recalled once it is broadcast.
The safe habit: copy the payout address from the Bitcoin wallet that will receive, and the refund address from the Litecoin wallet you pay from. When your wallets offer a choice, use the formats that cannot be confused, bc1q or bc1p for the payout and ltc1 for the refund.
| Starts with | Chain | Field on this order |
|---|---|---|
| bc1q…, bc1p…, 1… | Bitcoin only | Payout address |
| ltc1…, L…, M… | Litecoin only | Refund address |
| 3… | Bitcoin or Litecoin | Either field: check which wallet it came from |
Fees and timing
LTC to BTC fees and timing
The 0.48% fee comes out of the LTC you send, so the table works for any price; the live BTC amount for your order is shown in the form.
| You send | 0.48% fee, inside the quote |
|---|---|
| 2 LTC | 0.0096 LTC |
| 20 LTC | 0.0960 LTC |
| 200 LTC | 0.9600 LTC |
Deposit wait. 6 confirmations × Litecoin’s block target of 2.5 minutes (nPowTargetSpacing = 2.5 * 60 in chainparams.cpp) comes to about 15 minutes, a little more when blocks run slow.
Payout. After the swap executes, Courier broadcasts the BTC. Your wallet shows it at once as unconfirmed; the first confirmation follows in about 10 minutes on average, although not every Bitcoin block interval is exactly 10 minutes. A Lightning payout arrives in seconds, as long as the invoice is still valid; BOLT11 invoices expire after 3,600 seconds when they set no expiry of their own (BOLT 11).
Who pays which fee. Your Litecoin wallet pays the LTC network fee for the deposit; it goes to Litecoin miners, not to Ghostex, and is not refunded. The network fee for sending your BTC payout is covered by Ghostex and already reflected in your quote.
Pitfalls
LTC to BTC mistakes to avoid
Five AI agents run each order. On this one, Oracle quotes LTC against BTC, Sentinel waits for the 6 Litecoin confirmations, Executor makes the swap and Courier broadcasts the BTC (meet all five). A fixed rate locks the BTC amount for 30 minutes while you send. A floating rate settles at the market price when the swap executes (fixed vs floating rates).
FAQ
Litecoin to Bitcoin questions
How long does LTC to BTC take?
Most orders finish in 5 to 30 minutes. Ghostex needs 6 Litecoin confirmations, about 15 minutes at a 2.5-minute block target. The BTC payout is then broadcast and gets its first Bitcoin confirmation in about 10 minutes on average, or arrives in seconds over Lightning.
Can I get the BTC over Lightning?
Yes. Switch the receive side to Bitcoin on Lightning and paste an invoice, a Lightning address, LNURL or a BOLT12 offer. An invoice must stay valid for at least 45 minutes, and an invoice with an amount works only with a fixed rate. Read when to receive BTC over Lightning rather than on-chain.
Can I receive to a Taproot (bc1p) address?
Yes. The payout field accepts Taproot addresses starting with bc1p, as well as bc1q, 1 and 3 addresses. Testnet addresses such as tb1 are rejected, so use a mainnet Bitcoin wallet.
What if my exchange deducts its withdrawal fee from the LTC?
Then less LTC arrives than the order expects. On a fixed rate, a different amount no longer gets the locked rate: the order runs at the market rate or is refunded automatically, and the order page shows which. Set the withdrawal so that the amount arriving equals the quote.
Where does a refund go?
Back to Litecoin. A refund is sent as LTC on the Litecoin network, minus the network cost of sending it. It goes to your refund address, or to the address you paid from if you left the field empty. Paying from an exchange? Add your own ltc1 or L address as the refund address.
Do I need an account or KYC?
No. An LTC to BTC order needs only the amount, your Bitcoin address and, if you want, a Litecoin refund address. There is no account to create, and no name, email, phone or ID is asked for.
