Buying Bitcoin with stablecoins normally runs through an exchange account: deposit USDT, trade it on a BTC/USDT order book, then withdraw. This order does the same in one step with no account. On-chain BTC or Lightning: choose your payout
On-chain. Courier broadcasts the BTC to your bc1q…, bc1p…, 1… or 3… address, and your wallet lists it as pending until it is included in a block. The Bitcoin block interval averages 10 minutes, though single intervals vary widely. The payout has a transaction ID you can look up on any block explorer.
Lightning. Switch the receive side to BTC on the Lightning Network. The payout then moves through payment channels and settles in seconds, with no block to wait for, but the destination rules are stricter:
- A BOLT11 invoice (lnbc…) must remain valid for at least 45 minutes when the order is created: the 30-minute rate lock plus a 15-minute margin. BOLT11 sets a default expiry of 3,600 seconds when none is given, so a default invoice passes; one set to expire in 15 minutes is rejected.
- An invoice that states an amount works only with a fixed rate, and that amount must equal the payout to within 1 sat.
- A floating rate cannot know the final amount in advance, so it needs an amountless invoice, a Lightning address (name@domain), an LNURL (lnurl1…) or a BOLT12 offer (lno1…).
- Testnet invoices are rejected, and a lightning: prefix is removed automatically.
A Lightning payout has no explorer link: your wallet's payment history is the record that it arrived.
