Gas: sending ERC20 USDT needs ETH
Every Ethereum transaction pays gas, and gas is paid in ETH, never in the token being moved. A plain ETH transfer uses 21,000 gas; a USDT transfer calls the Tether token contract and therefore uses more. The USDT in your wallet cannot pay for its own transfer.
- Zero ETH means no deposit. A wallet holding USDT and no ETH cannot broadcast the transfer. Top it up with ETH before you create the order, or withdraw the USDT from an exchange, which pays the gas for you.
- One ticker, several networks. Besides Ethereum, Ghostex lists USDT on Tron, BNB Smart Chain, Solana, Arbitrum, Polygon and Avalanche as separate assets. The EVM versions all use 0x addresses, so your wallet will not warn you if you send on the wrong one; this page covers Ethereum mainnet only.
- No Omni USDT. Some older converters still list USDT on Omni, the layer built on Bitcoin. Tether's supported-protocols page marks Omni as no longer supported, and Ghostex does not list it.

USDT sent from Arbitrum, Polygon, Avalanche or BNB Smart Chain to an order for Ethereum USDT is a wrong-network deposit. The address looks identical, but no automatic refund applies and recovery cannot be promised.
The wrong withdrawal network at an exchange
Exchanges usually offer several networks for a USDT withdrawal, and the cheapest is not the one you need. For this order choose ERC20 (Ethereum), not Arbitrum, Polygon or BSC.
A refund address that fails the checksum
A mixed-case 0x address carries an EIP-55 checksum, so one mistyped letter makes the form reject it. Paste the address from your wallet instead of typing it.
Sending a different amount
Send exactly the USDT amount on the order. With a fixed rate, a different amount cannot be filled at the locked rate: it is executed at the market rate or refunded automatically.
